Mental health and community impact
At Timoth FC
Our purpose goes far beyond football. While we compete with pride and ambition on the pitch, our club was founded with a deeper mission at its heart: to support and champion young men’s mental health through the power of sport, community, and shared purpose.
Why Mental Health Matters
The statistics are stark — and serve as a powerful reminder of the challenges many young men face:
Suicide remains the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK.
Around 1 in 8 men in England have a diagnosed common mental health problem such as depression, anxiety or stress-related disorders.
Men are far less likely than women to access psychological therapies — only 36% of referrals to NHS talking therapies are for men.
These numbers reflect not just a health crisis, but a cultural one — where too many young men suffer in silence, lacking the support, spaces, or confidence to speak openly.
The Role of Football
The benefits of playing sport on mental health are widely recognised. Studies show that:
Regular physical activity can reduce the risk of depression by up to 30%.
Being part of a team increases feelings of belonging and self-worth, and can reduce feelings of isolation.
The structure and challenge of competitive sport can boost motivation, emotional resilience, and overall life satisfaction
At Timoth FC, we believe football is more than just a game — it’s a vehicle for growth, connection, and personal development. By fostering competitive spirit, camaraderie, and friendship, we provide a supportive space where young men can become better, stronger versions of themselves.
Our Environment
We are proud to offer a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment. Our coaching staff and volunteers are compassionate, approachable, and deeply committed to the well-being of every player. Whether you’re battling low confidence, struggling with stress, or simply looking for a place to belong — we are here for you.
If through football, we can help even one person find their confidence, discover their purpose, or become who they want to be, then we have fulfilled our mission.
Giving Back: Supporting Shooting Star Children’s Hospices
Our commitment to helping others extends beyond our own players. Each year, Timoth FC proudly supports Shooting Star Children’s Hospices in Teddington — a local charity that provides vital care to babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, as well as essential support for their families.
Through our annual toy drive and fundraising campaigns, we aim to bring moments of joy and comfort to children facing unimaginable challenges. This work is about more than donations — it’s about teaching our players and volunteers the importance of compassion, empathy, and service to others.
A Football Club With Purpose
We firmly believe that football can and should be a force for good — not just in developing athletes, but in shaping thoughtful, caring, and responsible individuals. Whether it’s on the pitch or in our community, we strive to make the footballing world a better place — one goal, one match, one kind act at a time - The Timoth Way.
